For the second year in a row, we were responsible for producing the opening film for the Philadelphia Addy Awards presentation. In addition to creating an entertaining short film for the purpose it is intended to serve, we also endeavor to explore some new technology or technique on these pro bono jobs so as to get some ROI for ourselves out of the deal. This year we decided to see what all the hype was about with shooting video with a Digital SLR. This piece was shot entirely with the Canon 5D Digital SLR. Although I was involved in the shooting of this piece I will now skip ahead to the post-production stage in my story as that is the general focus of my blog. (That and I just can't stay up all night writing like I used to be able to when I was a youngin') Every scene was shot in 1080p and later treated in After Effects to have more of a stop-motion feel. I effected exposure as well as frame rates to make it feel more like a series of still photos. In hindsight, I wish I had been a little more heavy-handed on the exposure differences between frames and had "wiggled" the time posterization a bit to give a more inconsistent or hand made feel. Unfortunately, we get very little time to crank these babies out so there are always details and extra touches that we wish we had time to do. The piece was originally edited to Depeche Mode's "Dreaming of Me". At some point someone decided it might be easier/cheaper to get the publishing rights only and to re-record the song <b>...</b>
